Mosimane confirms Mashego exit

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has confirmed the departure of striker Katlego Mashego from Chloorkop at the end of June.

Mashego joined the Brazilians from Moroka Swallows ahead of the 2013/14 season, making over 18 appearances in all competitions and scoring eight goals in his first campaign with the club.

Since then, the former Orlando Pirates struggled to claim a regular starting berth in Mosimane's side, mainly due to his lack of consistency in front of goal.

In the 2015/16 campaign, the former PSL top goalscorer was forced to watch from the stands, as Leonardo Castro and Khama Billiat established a formidable partnership upfront to help Downs finish with a Absa Premiership and Telkom Knockout double.

"Mashego was registered for CAF, you saw him playing, but his contract is ending and he has the right not to continue," Mosimane told reporters.

"He feels that maybe at this point in time he should be looking for another team because we have made him aware that we are not going to renew his contract for next year.

"In his own discretion, he’s decided that this is the time he should look ahead to his future rather than concentrating on the last 15 days (of his contract).

"I mean, we can't blame him but also he has a contract so we’ll see what we do with that," Mosimane concluded.
