Mohomi embracing new challenge

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Lucky Mohomi admits to facing a tough challenge in their star-studded midfield but has vowed to fight his way into the starting XI.

Mohomi made the switch from Free State Stars on a reported lucrative three-year deal in July.

Having made his official debut for Downs as a second-half substitute in the MTN 8 semi-final 3-1 victory over SuperSport United last month, he is more than prepared to double his efforts.

"I think the hard work I put during the pre-season (training) paid off, prompting coach Pitso (Mosimane) to give me my early debut in Sundowns colours," the 25-year-old told Vodacom Soccer website.

"Despite that I came on as a sub in SuperSport's match, but the fact that I've made my Sundowns debut in an official match is a motivation for me."

Mohomi, who made his mark with Stars last season where he scored three goals in 29 appearances, admits that at Downs he is faced with a totally different challenge compared to Ea Lla Koto.

"Joining Sundowns has obviously been a dream move to me, but the fact is Sundowns is different to Free State Stars," he added.

"Sundowns is a star-studded team with a number of big names in many positions, and the competition for a starting berth is stiff.

"But I'm ready for a challenge, and am prepared to fight my way into the team's starting XI and make my mark, because I've always been an ambitious and hardworking player since from my days in the National First Division."

Pitso Mosimane's side will lock horns with Chippa United in the first leg of their MTN 8 semi-final tie at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
