Wits coach Gavin Hunt has confirmed that the Clever Boys have signed
striker Thobani Mncwango this January instead of waiting for June.
The original agreement between Wits and Mncwango's club Polokwane City was that he would begin life with the Students in June, after penning a pre-contract as part of that deal.
However, with the defending Premiership champions struggling near the bottom of the Premiership, it appears the side pushed through a move to land the player's services with immediate effect.
The 30-year-old scored 13 league goals in 2015/16 which appeared to initially catch Wits' attentions. His return last season was three strikes in 14 games, however, a deal had already been struck for him to move to Braamfontein.
The forward has started just once in 2017/18 and so fitness is a concern for Hunt. He told reporters, "We've got the boy coming in, so he will help us. He has not played.
"He can play wide and he can play down the middle. He's got a few goals and he's got a little bit of pace, [which is] something we need. As I said he has not played in a long time, so we will have a look and see what happens.
"It's like (fellow new signing) Keagan Ritchie as well, his fitness levels are not good. He needs to play and he will play. We've got lots of games."
