Johannesburg - Bidvest Wits midfielder Xola Mlambo refuted the claims by Pitso Mosimane that they displayed unsporting behaviour in their 3-0 MTN8 final win over Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.
The university club demolished the Brazilians after a brace from Daine Klate and a strike from Eleazar Rodgers.
With minutes left in the final, the Wits players started putting on a show for the fans with tricks on the ball and fancy footwork.
"We had to give the supporters a little bit of something, not saying as a team we are only playing long balls or whatsoever," Mlambo told KickOff.
"We had to acknowledge the potential that the individual has here. We saw the game is already dead and at least just two minutes. But I know I'm going to get a beating for that, I will take it as a man.
"But I wouldn't say it is disrespect, it's a game of football. If they are doing it to other teams it's how they play and if it happens that it's us doing it to them, it was part of the game. They have to accept it, learn from it and move forward.
"We also would have taken it if they were doing it to us because most of the time we were chasing the ball and always marking. So we had to express ourselves a little bit and ease the pressure that we had from them."
