Cape Town - Former Orlando Pirates winger Helman Mkhalele believes Sfiso Myeni is more effective when he is given a free role.
The 28-year-old is yet to claim a permanent position in the Buccaneers starting line-up, having often been used as a winger or in a false nine position by club management since joining the Sea Robbers from Bidvest Wits in January 2012.
Mkhalele admits Myeni is yet to reach his full potential as a playmaker, however, he feels the midfielder has played well when he is given freedom to play behind the strikers.
"Myeni has had his good moments at Pirates and there are games that he has been so brilliant, but I think he has not played to his full potential at Pirates," he told Goal website.
"I think playing in different positions has not helped his case, but he has done a lot better playing in a free role position.
"A lot of Pirates' skillful players have been performing well under Eric Tinkler and I believe it has to do with the fact he gives them the freedom to play to the best of their abilities," he added.
