Micho pleased with opening day victory

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates head coach Milutin Sredejovic says their opening day triumph over Chippa United is the first step to regaining confidence amongst his squad.

After a turbulent season finishing in 13th place in the Premiership, Micho returned to Mayfair after nearly a decade since his first stint at the club.

And the start of his second tenure got off to a positive start with a new-look Buccaneers line-up producing the tactical discipline that was often lacking in their below-par 2016/17 campaign.

The much maligned Thamsanqa Gabuza scored the only goal of the game as the Sea Robbers secured maximum points over the Chilli Boys at the Orlando Stadium.

"We had a very tough game this evening. Chippa United took the game to us and at times they asked us a lot of questions," he said after the game.

"But fortunately my players were always on hand to answer to the challenge from the visitors.

"In terms of our overall performance, I would say there's still room for improvement but in terms of the result, I am very happy because this is something we targeted before the game.

"It's evident at this point in time that we are lacking self-confidence especially from a peculiar season we come from. We came into this game wanting a win to regain confidence.

"We need to improve on certain aspects but confidence comes with winning and I have to be happy with that."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
