Mbesuma faces 3 months on the sidelines

Cape Town - A knee operation looks set to sideline Highlands Park striker Collins Mbesuma for up to three months.

With January set aside for the African Cup of Nations, Mbesuma will, however, not miss as much action as would usually be the case.

The Zambian has netted four goals so far for the struggling Lions of the North, having been the PSL's leading marksman last season with 13 goals for Mpumalanga Black Aces.

Head coach Gordon Igesund explained the 32-year-old's situation to Soccer Laduma.

"Collins had a knee operation, but it's nothing major. It's been something that's been bothering him for a while. It’ll take about three weeks to recover, and then six or eight before he can play. It’s probably going to be two or three months out."

Highlands are unbeaten in their last three matches, but still remain only one point above the relegation zone.

They have only one more game this year, away at Chippa United, on Saturday, December 17.
