Mathoho ready for 'special' clash against Pirates

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs defender Eric Mathoho missed out on last Saturday’s Township Rollers game due to a light flu, but the 26-year-old will certainly be ready for the upcoming Soweto Derby.

Amakhosi and Orlando Pirates face each other in the Carling Black Label Champion Cup clash at FNB Stadium on Saturday, July 29.

“Playing against Orlando Pirates is always special,” he commented on the club’s website.

This will be Tower’s sixth season at the club since joining from Bloemfontein Celtic for the 2011/2012 season.

The defender started his 150th official game for the Glamour Boys on 29 April 2017, against SuperSport United in a 2-2 draw.

Mathoho has revealed that he is happy with the way pre-season have gone so far.

“We are all getting to know each other better, which bodes well for the future,” Mathoho said.

Since the voting started for the Carling Black Label Cup line-ups, Mathoho has been a constant in the top 5 and he’s therefore more than likely to start against the Soweto rivals.

He loves how the supporters are the ones that decide who will play and in what tactical formation for Saturday’s match.

“If you get voted in,” he says, “it’s up to you to make the fans happy.”

Kick off is at 15:30 with the tickets already sold out.
