Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs defender Tsepo Masilela says a strong start to the season is imperative in order for the club to challenge for silverware.
Amakhosi, who take on Orlando Pirates in the Carling Black Label Cup on Saturday, finished last season in fourth position on the Premiership table.
Masilela is determined to make the 2017/18 campaign one to remember, and wants the team to go out guns blazing in order to lay down an early marker of their intent.
"It's the coach's third season and we have to deliver. Obviously, we want to win something for him, but we should do it for the brand and the Kaizer Chiefs fans. We should do it for people," he was quoted as saying by KickOff website.
"The stronger you start, the better. We don't want to be in a situation where we are playing catch up. Once you start strong, it gives you that cushion, even throughout the season where you hit a slump.
"You know that you have started strong, that you have enough points or you have already won a (knockout competition) trophy. That extra cushion is important," the Bafana Bafana left-back explained.
Chiefs were in action over the weekend, playing to a 1-1 draw with Botswana outfit Township Rollers.
