Mashego, Manzini seal Chippa win

Cape Town - Katlego Mashego and Lerato Manzini were on target as Chippa United earned a 2-0 victory over Highlands Park at Sisa Dukashe Stadium on Saturday.

Chippa United dominated the first stanza and deservedly went ahead through Katlego Mashego's free kick in the 26th minute. He nearly made it 2-0 not long after but Tapuwa Kapini made a good save.

Lerato Manzini finished the game off for Chippa when he finished off from Paseka Mako's cross in the 73rd minute.

The Chilli Boys were in control as they dominated play at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium. They nearly hit the front early when Zamuxolo Ngalo brought down Thamsanqa Sangweni. Yet, his fifth minute free kick smashed against the post with Tapuwa Kapini beaten.

It was virtually one way traffic and eventually Mashego gave Chippa some reward for their dominance. After being brought down by Ngalo, he smashed in a free kick from around 30 yards which seemed to take a deflection off the wall in the 26th minute.

He nearly made it 2-0 from another set piece when Mothobi Mvala fouled Thembinkosi Lorch, and the striker forced Kapini into a good save from a similar distance. The Zimbabwe international dived full length across his goal to deflect the strike away from the top corner.

After the interval, the Lions of the North did force a save from Daniel Akpeyi when Mvala hit a powerful shot from beyond 40 yards which gave the goalkeeper some work to do although he wasn't troubled.

Gordon Igesund's men were having more possession with Surprise Moriri prominent, however, clear chances were few and far between. From some occasional deliveries into the box, Akpeyi had no problem in dealing with the danger.

It was over as a contest in the 73rd minute when Paseka Mako broke into the box and pulled it back for Lerato Manzini to finish.
