Cape Town - Maritzburg United have snapped up Mamelodi Sundowns defender Kwanda Mngonyama on a permanent basis.
Mngonyama had been on loan at Maritzburg over the previous two seasons and prior to that he was out on loan at Bidvest Wits.
The centre-back has made 51 starts for the Team of Choice and was recently a part of the South Africa under-23 side that took part at the Rio Olympics.
The 22-year-old made 24 appearances as he helped Ernst Middendorp's side narrowly escape relegation on the final day of last season.
Nonetheless, it has been confirmed that United have signed Mngonyama on a permanent basis and he has now swapped Chloorkop for Pietermaritzburg.
The Team of Choice have made a number of signings for the 2016/17 campaign with the likes of Bevan Fransman, Dennis Wieldiech, Devon Saal, Bryce Moon, Themba Shabalala, Blessing Moyo, Andrea Fileccia, Bongani Mpande, Lebohang Maboe and Luyanda Ntshangase joining the club.
