Cape Town - Highlands Park came from a goal behind to draw 1-1 with a ten-man Maritzburg United side in an Absa Premiership match at the Harry Gwala stadium on Wednesday night.

Devon Saal opened the scoring for the home side in the second half only to see his strike cancelled out by Thanduyise Khuboni six minutes later.

United played the last half an hour of the match with ten men after Bevan Fransman received a red card for a dangerous tackle on Edwin Sitayitayi.

The first half produced numerous goal scoring chances, but both teams were poor in front of goal.

The first real effort on goal came in the 14th minute when Devon Saal found some space 25-yards out, but he fired just over the target.

Highlands Park were gifted an opportunity to go ahead four minutes later when a mistake by Dennis Wieldiech allowed Brandon Theron through on goal, but he was superbly denied in a one-on-one with the United keeper.

In the 19th minute Abia Nale came close to scoring for the home side when he met a cross into the box by Evans Rusike, but the Maritzburg man head inches wide.

On the half hour mark Rusike found his way behind the Highlands Park defence, but with just the keeper to beat he chipped over the goal.

Neither side could find a goal before the half-time break.

Three minutes into the second half Maritzburg took the lead when Saal rounded off a swift passing move with a clinical finish, 1-0.

Highlands Park quickly hit back and levelled matters in the 54th minute when Thanduyise Khuboni headed home from close range, 1-1.

Maritzburg suffered a further set-back just before the hour mark when they were reduced to ten men following a red card for Bevan Fransman.

Highlands dominated possession after that and pushed for a winner, but the Maritzburg defence held firm to earn a share of the spoils.

The draw sees Maritzburg in 11th place on the table with six points from seven games while Highlands Park are in 13th place with five points from six games.
