Maluleka determined to find consistency

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Maluleka is determined to take his game to the next level by finding more consistency and scoring more goals.

There can be little doubting Maluleka's achievements on the domestic front, the former AmaTuks, Ajax Cape Town and SuperSport United man having a decade's top-flight experience to his name, but he is adamant that there is still room to improve.

"One of the things I lack in my game is consistency," Maluleka told the Sunday Independent

"I have been working on it. So far so good with the help of my team-mates and the technical staff.

"In this day and age, consistency is very important because you have games coming in thick and fast. You need to make sure that you always perform at your best."

The 28-year-old from Tembisa has also set himself, and his midfield partners, the task of contributing more to the goal-scoring column.

"In the midfield department, between me and (Hendrick) Ekstein, we should take the responsibility to score goals," Maluleka said.

"It's one of our tasks to help the team get goals. We should be able to get ourselves in scoring positions. If I am not high up, I will be helping the team defend.

"If the strikers aren't scoring goals, the midfield should be helping out. Between the three of us (Maluleka, Willard Katsande and Ekstein), it's up to me and Ekstein to find the goals. I don't think that there's a player that doesn't like scoring goals."

Maluleka has scored twice this season so far - once in the league and once in the Telkom Knockout.

Chiefs next face Bidvest Wits at the Bidvest Stadium in a Telkom Knockout semi-final clash on Saturday.

Kick off is at 15:30.
