Malesela dismisses 'favourite' tag

Port Elizabeth - Chippa United head coach Dan Malesela has distanced the Chilli Boys from the MTN8 favourites tag following their 2-0 victory over Platinum Stars.

The debutants had a stellar start to the Wafa-Wafa competition by eliminating Dikwena in the quarter-final at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace on Saturday.

Debutant striker Menzi Masuku was on target for the Chilli Boys alongside Rhulani Manzini to hand over the Port Elizabeth based outfit a golden ticket to the last four.

Malesela said that despite playing good football and getting the required results, he does not intend to predict what would happen in the later stages of the R8m competition but instead they will take it one game at a time.

“I don’t want to act as a Prophet and say what would happen tomorrow,” insisted Malesela.

“But as a team, we’ll give it our best shot as times goes on, everything that comes our way.

“And hopefully things will go our way and we just want to play football without being scared of the ball.”

Chippa will face the inform Mamelodi Sundowns in a two-legged semi-final encounter.

Venus and dates are yet to be confirmed.
