Mahlambi impressing in Europe

Cape Town - Bidvest Wits Chief Executive Officer Jose Ferreira has confirmed that club starlet Phakamani Mahlambi appears to be on the verge of winning a deal in Europe.

The 19-year-old forward sensation is currently rated as one of the best attacking prospects in South Africa, and is on trial with Portuguese Primeira Liga outfit, Guimaraes.

Since making his debut in 2015/16 for the Students, the player has banged in a number of goals as well as providing a healthy number of assists. As such, a big future abroad is predicted for the teenager.

Ferreira told reporters of Mahlambi, "We've got Phakamani who's on trial overseas, and there's been quite a bit of interest on Phakamani.

"Things are looking good. He had an outstanding game last week for Guimaraes against Sporting. They're very happy with him, they're monitoring his progress and obviously, we'll find out over the next few days (what's happening)."

Meanwhile Wits goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs believes that recent signing Steven Pienaar is a far more mature player than during their days together at Ajax Cape Town.

The pair played together with the Urban Warriors before Pienaar departed for Europe where he enjoyed huge personal success most notably for English Premier League outfit, Everton.
