Lebese pleads for patience after slow Sundowns start

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns winger George Lebese has asked for the club's fans to have patience with him after failing to live up to expectations since his move from Kaizer Chiefs.

The 28-year-old has struggled to break into the first team with regularity since arriving at Chloorkop in August, although he says he's committed to working as hard as possible to change that in 2018.

Lebese has featured in just seven league matches and scored just once for the Brazilians. Nonetheless, the Mamelodi-born star says he will do whatever it takes to win over the supporters.

Speaking to Sowetan Live, he said: "Obviously I am not happy with the contributions that I have made so far to Mamelodi Sundowns.

"As a player you want to be playing every match but I respect the decision of the coach because I know that the players who are playing ahead of me are doing well at the moment.

"I am asking the Sundowns fans to be patient with me because I am doing all I can to make them happy and contribute to the success of the team.

"I am not expecting that we will have a long break anyway‚ but my plan is to continue working on my fitness right through the Christmas break so that when we resume I am in good physical condition."

Sundowns next welcome Maritzburg United to Loftus Versveld Stadium in an Absa Premiership clash on Wednesday evening hoping to extend their lead at the top of the table.

Kick off is at 19:30.
