Larsen eyes UEFA coaching badges

Cape Town - Golden Arrows coach Clinton Larsen is set to improve his coaching qualifications, as he pursues a UEFA A Licence to add to his SAFA Level 1 and 2 badges.

The former Manning Rangers midfielder began his coaching career back in 2005 as an assistant coach at Rangers.

Since then, Larsen grew to become one of the top coaches in South African football after joining Bloemfontein Celtic, where he won the 2012 Telkom Knockout competition in just two years at the club.

The 45-year-old has revealed that he is close to registering for a UEFA A Licence, saying that it is very important for coaches to keep improving themselves at all times, before adding that he hopes he's current bosses will give him the opportunity to pursue the European badge.

"I'm trying to do my UEFA A Licence. But it is very difficult to find time off work when you are employed full-time," he said.

"I have spoken to my boss (Mato Madlala) about it and if an opportunity presents itself, at the right time, I will be given time off to go pursue those badges.

"As coaches, we can only let the results do the talking for us. I'm willing to grow and there is a room for improvement in my coaching."

If Larsen succeeds he will be the third local coach to hold a UEFA A Licence, joining Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt and Orlando Pirates mentor Eric Tinkler.
