Komphela rues blunt attacking display

Cape Town -  Steve Komphela appeared a dejected figure after Kaizer Chiefs fell to a 1-0 defeat for the first time against Polokwane City on Saturday.

The narrow defeat to Polokwane further damaged Chiefs' slim hopes of a top three finish this season in order to qualify for CAF football.

Thapelo Tshilo's 75th-minute goal proved to be the winner and crushed the Amakhosi faithful.

And after the game, Komphela reiterated their consistent troubles in finding the back of the net, after dominating large spells of possession.

"Congratulations to them (Polokwane)," said Komphela.

"They fought for it, they had the energy, and unfortunately, with us, we didn't take the chances we had or advantage of the situations we created ourselves.

"You need to take the chances you create. Maybe one thing we could have done better is play forward quicker."

Fifth-placed Chiefs' next league encounter is against Platinum Stars at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

Kick-off on Wednesday at 19:30

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
