Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs have announced that Itumeleng Khune will wear the captain's armband for the upcoming PSL 2016/17 season.
The Soweto giants confirmed the news via their Twitter account as the goalkeeper takes over the duties from Siphiwe Tshabalala.
"Khune will lead the Amakhosi as the Team Captain going into the new season #Amakhosi4Life," read the tweet.
During the 2014/15 campaign, Khune was captain up until he sustained serious injury which kept him sidelined for months. The 'keeper was responsibilities was than shifted over to Tefu Mashamaite. Chiefs went on to win the league and cup double that season under the mentorship of Stuart Baxter.
The following season the club faced a mass exodus of players including the likes of Mashamaite and Mandla Masango. Meanwhile, Khune had contractual disputes with the club before the Naturena side finally offered the 'keeper a new contract.
Chiefs play Bidvest Wits in their first Absa Premiership encounter on Tuesday, August 23.
Kick-off is at 19:30.
