Komphela eyes TKO injury boost

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela is hoping for a welcome injury boost ahead of the Telkom Knockout final against Mamelodi Sundowns next month.

Amakhosi travelled to Maritzburg United this past weekend without a number of first-team regulars due to injury, but they managed to come away from the Harry Gwala Stadium with a 1-1 draw.

Chiefs captain Siphiwe Tshabalala, Itumeleng Khune, David Zulu, Ivan Bukenya and Camaldine Abraw are all currently sidelined, while Siyanda Xulu has only just returned from a knee injury which kept him out of action for more than two months.

The Glamour Boys are next in action on December 16 when they battle the Brazilians in Durban for the second trophy on offer this season, and Komphela is keeping his fingers crossed that his injury list will have eased by then.

"I don't know... it is a blessing or curse because the break breaks your rhythm," he told KickOff.

"It would have been nice to say 'we are playing [proper games] and then we go to the final', but on the other hand it allows you the opportunity to get those who are have injuries back and to freshen up your team."
