Khune hospitalised with chest infection

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune is in hospital with a chest infection and will not play in Wednesday's Absa Premiership clash with SuperSport United.

The 30-year-old Bafana Bafana international reportedly missed the Glamour Boys' last match due to the same issue with illness, yet, it seems the infection has gotten worse causing the hospitalisation.

It appears Khune will now also be in doubt for Bafana when they face Cape Verde in two crucial upcoming 2018 Soccer World Cup qualifiers in September, meaning coach Stuart Baxter may have to call up a replacement.

Meanwhile, the 'keeper's former team-mate, George Lebese, wished the Ventersdorp-born star well as he continues his recovery.

The winger said on Instagram, "Get well soon, brother."

In addition, Orlando Pirates 'keeper, Jackson Mabokgwane, added, "Get well soon my friend."

Brilliant Khuzwayo appears set to start in goal once more just as he did in the 1-1 draw against Bloemfontein Celtic, with either Brylon Peterson or Bruce Bvuma expected to deputise.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
