Khoza wants Ertugral to uphold Bucs prestige

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates chairperson Irvin Khoza urged coach Muhsin Ertugral to uphold the club's prestigious legacy ahead of their 80th anniversary next year.

Khoza appointed Ertugral to bring a new approach to the team after a barren run last season and is keen to add silverware to the trophy cabinet ahead of the club's milestone in 2017.

"The coach understands what it means to coach Orlando Pirates, now that he is inside. It's not easy," Khoza told The Sowetan.

"My coach and the players we bring into the team, there's one question we ask them: 'how are you going to help us improve the history of Pirates, because Orlando Pirates is not about being in the top eight or the top three? It counts for nothing. It's got to do with history.

"As we celebrate 80 years next year, we are going to relive the history and contribution made by lots of people that made Orlando Pirates. This is an institution.

"Wherever he goes now, somebody is talking to him. When he was at Aces it was a bit like a holiday I think. But now it's not a holiday because 24/7 he must answer something and gets invited. It's quite an interesting job."

Pirates will open their season against Golden Arrows at the Orlando Stadium on August 24.
