Khoza discusses coach rumours

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza has responded to recent rumours regarding the next coach for the Soweto giants.

Since the resignation of Muhsin Ertugral in November, Augusto Palacios has been serving in an interim basis at the Buccaneers.

But after an indifferent run of form the Iron Duke has been more vocal about Ertugral's potential successor as well as the recent reports of a sensational return of former Bafana Bafana striker Benni McCarthy.

"All the applicants will be measured based on the criteria we are looking at as a club. We won't just hire at random," Khoza said.

"Benni and other potential coaches must follow the same procedure: they must apply. We will weigh it up from there."

There have also been rumours of unrest in the camp, which Khoza rubbished, claiming it is the interest of Palacios to sort things out.

"It's easy to point fingers at Palacios because we are losing. You forget that he delivered us trophies when he came as a buffer," Khoza added.

"I don't buy the story that Palacios is complaining about discipline in the team. If there's a problem then he must fix it.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
