Kekana: We can defend African crown

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana believes they have what it takes to defend their CAF Champions League title.

The Brazilians became the second South African club to win the Champions League when they defeated Zamalek in a two-legged final.

Having been drawn alongside Esperance, AS Vita, and St George, Kekana was feeling confident that they can emulate last year's achievement.

They open the group stage of their campaign on Saturday against St George of Ethiopia.

"It would be very special for your club, the fans and the players to retain this trophy in South Africa," he told SowetanLive website.

"When we started the campaign last season we never thought of winning the trophy but we did it and it can be done again this time around if we try.

"It's going to be an exciting campaign for us and we are looking forward to the match against Saint George."
