Kekana joins Beckham in unique achievement

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Hlompho Kekana's two goals from inside his own half ranks him alongside David Beckham in terms of having the distinction of doing it twice.

His goal from distance against Orlando Pirates now puts him alongside the legendary English midfielder in terms of having the distinction of doing it on two occasions.

In 2016, he scored for Bafana Bafana from inside his own half against Cameroon in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, with a strike that saw him nominated for the Puskas award.

His second stunner against the Sea Robbers was another spectacular hit as goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands was found wanting off his line.

Meanwhile, Beckham, who is now retired, did it for Manchester United against Wimbledon in 1996‚ and repeated the dose of magic for LA Galaxy against Kansas City Wizards in 2008.

The duo are a rare few who have managed the unusual feat. Others to have scored from inside their own half during the course of their careers include Rivaldo for Barcelona‚ Mor Diouf for SuperSport United‚ Jose Luis Chilavert for Velez Sarsfield and Xabi Alonso for Liverpool.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
