Kekana: It was a very long season

Pretoria - After being crowned as the Absa Premiership champions for a record seven times, Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Hlompho Kekana insisted that the Brazilians deserve the championship crown due to their heroics throughout the 2015/16 campaign.

The Brazilians finished off their season in style by defeating Platinum Stars 1-0 in their last league game at the Lucas Moripe Stadium courtesy of a Khama Billiat first-half strike.

The hard tackling midfielder cited that it was a very long season and praised his team-mates hard working Sundowns team for their consistency.

Kekana was also chuffed with the fact that the Pretoria giants have set another record of reaching 71 points in a season, which he believes it will be their new target to break going forward.

"It was a very long season for us and we knew that it would be difficult at some point," said Kekana.

"But I’m happy for the boys and some of them won the league for the first time in their careers.

"For me as a player I believed that my experience helped to fulfilled some body's dream.

"I’m very happy because we are the champions again and with such performances throughout the season, we really deserve to be champions.

"And also set another target for us to break because we have reached 71 points."
