Keene loving life in the PSL

Cape Town - Bidvest Wits' new English striking sensation James Keene admits that he's played football at a higher level, but has enjoyed his time in South Africa thus far.

The 30-year old journeyman attacker plied his trade in Sweden after failing to establish himself in his homeland with Portsmouth, but went on to represent the former Swedish champions IF Elfsborg in the 2013/14 Champions League qualifiers as well as the Europa League.

"Even though I come from a small town in England, I developed a real liking for big ones after I lived for many years in Stockholm and Gothenburg, Sweden, then again in Tel Aviv, Israel," Keene told Soccer Laduma.

"I like the city life. I like to be active and do things, so I love Johannesburg so far

After failing to win a contract while on trial at Kaizer Chiefs, Gavin Hunt gave the marksman his chance to shine in the Premiership and it seems he's picked up an experienced player with real pedigree.

"It was very good for me in Sweden," Keene added. "I played in the UEFA Champions League and the Europa League. The football was fantastic.

"In Israel, the football was very competitive. The teams love having a go at the Champions League and keep getting better every season."

Keene has had an explosive start to life with the Clever Boys, scoring four goals in his first four league encounters, including a hat-trick in their 5-0 demolition of Polokwane City last month.
