Keene credits Wits’ team efforts

Johannesburg - Bidvest Wits striker James Keene has credited his team-mates for their efforts following a hard-fought 5-0 win over Polokwane City last week.

The Clever Boys humiliated Rise and Shine at Bidvest Stadium last Friday thanks to well taken strikes by Paseka Sekese, Ben Motshwari and Keene’s treble.

The 30-year-old goal poacher said their aim was to bounce back from a 2-1 defeat to Mpumalanga Black Aces two weeks prior to that - and they showed their confidence against the Limpopo-based outfit.

“It was great to bounce back after losing to Aces the previous week,” said Keene.

“We worked very hard as a team at the training ground and we approached the game on Friday with confidence.

“The coach (Gavin Hunt) did well to bring out the confidence out of us.

“And also we are delighted because we also managed to keep a clean-sheet at home.”

Despite being on target three times on the night, the English-born forward said he is not setting his sights on the golden boot but instead intends to contribute to the team’s success.

“I just want to keep doing what I do best on the field,” he insisted.

“I will do my best to play my normal game and help the team win as many games as possible.

“But if I score goals, it would be a big bonus for me.”
