Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande was happy with the side's performance despite only just managing to draw against Maritzburg United.
Maritzburg took the lead in the Premiership encounter at the Harry Gwala Stadium in the 20th minute through a Kurt Lentjies spot-kick and Chiefs took until just about the last moment of the game, seven minutes into second-half injury time, to finally find an equaliser through Reneilwe Letsholonyane.
The late goal will have been devastating for the Team of Choice, who remain rooted to the bottom of the Premiership table after the stalemate.
Despite needing the late goal to rescue a singular point against the team in last place in the division, Katsande insists Amakhosi did well to draw the game.
"Maritzburg are a very good team. They played well and they came prepared," he told Soccer Laduma.
"We went there for a win but I can say a point was important from that game. We fought very hard and never gave up until the last minute.
"We showed true character of champions. We did well to come out with a point though we wanted all the three points. Our hard work paid off on the day," Katsande concluded.
Chiefs only return to competitive action on December 16 when they take on Mamelodi Sundowns in the final of the Telkom Knockout.
