Katsande wants team to take responsibility

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande believes the players need to take responsibility for the team's substandard start to the season.

Coach Steve Komphela has borne the brunt of Amakhosi supporters' ire after two losses and a draw in their opening three games of the campaign.

Katsande wants his team to improve their defence after conceding four goals in their opening three games.

"It's unfair to criticise the coach because we are a club, it's like us as players criticising our own players," Katsande told KickOff.

"We are working on that to change the situation. The only people who can change that is us who are in the situation.

"It is just a matter of time until we will get it right. I think we just need to bury the chances we create and also to avoid conceding in the first half. That's our big setback for now.

"We are working towards pulling out from this situation; like I said, we are the only people who will take ourselves out of this position. We just need to stick together and be mentally strong and try to turn the tables around."

Chiefs will be looking for their first victory against rookies Highlands Park at the Makhulong Stadium on Wednesday.

Kick-off is at 19:30.
