Cape Town - Wits goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs feels Orlando Pirates should attempt to sign Steven Pienaar if they are to regain their status as one of the country's top clubs.
Signing Pienaar, Josephs said, would have an impact similar on the club as when they brought in Benni McCarthy in 2012 and ended up winning the treble.
The veteran playmaker is out of contract in June at Sunderland and has often spoken about coming back to South Africa to finish off his career.
"Definitely, definitely. 'Schillo' is a big Orlando Pirates supporter. Big, big - massive," Josephs said about his former Bafana Bafana team-mate and captain as quoted by the SowetanLIVE website.
"I think he would bring something. He'd bring that spark back to Pirates. I'm vouching for Steven to come to Pirates.
"Bring the big stars‚ bring the real stars. They should go and chase Steven Pienaar and show the boys there what a real star is.
"That's what Benni came and did for us at Pirates. They brought a big star and he turned Pirates around. And Steven needs to come and do that at Orlando Pirates now."
Josephs, who confessed to still having a soft spot for his former club, urged Bucs chairman Irvin Khoza to actively chase the former Ajax, Borussia Dortmund, Everton and Tottenham midfielder.
"Bring Steven Pienaar to Orlando Pirates. The chairman should go and chase him," he concluded.
