Cape Town - Orlando Pirates coach Kjell Jonevret admits he took a risk by playing an injured Thembinkosi Lorch against Chippa United on Saturday night.
Pirates announced last week on their website that Lorch was to miss the rest of the season as he was to undergo a shoulder surgery, thought to be scheduled for this week.
While many took this to mean that the 23-year-old winger was out with immediate effect, it was not the case as he went on to feature in the 2-1 win over the Chilli Boys in Soweto.
Jonevret admits he took a risk on a player, of whom he expects to have a bright future at the club.
"We thought let us take a chance with Lorch [although] he had some pain in the shoulder and at the same time he hasn't trained with us so I think he was a little bit tired," the Swede told KickOff website.
"But Lorch is going to be a future great player at Pirates after having taken big steps. But he was a bit unlucky with the shoulder so we had to take care of that."
Pirates are next in action on Thursday night, away to Bidvest Wits.
