Jonevret: We lost this game in the first 20 minutes

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns cruised to a 2-0 win over Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Khama Billiat opened the scoring in this massive Premiership clash, with a good header on 24 minutes, before Yannick Zakri made the most of some poor defending to power home just after the half-time break.

The Buccaneers head coach Kjell Jonevret conceded that the Brazilians were the better side and admits the Soweto giants lost the match in the opening 20 minutes.

“I think we lost this game in the first 20 minutes. It looks like we had little respect there,” Jonevert said after the match as quoted by Soccer Laduma website.

“Sundowns were very aggressive. We let them play and they got the momentum after that. The last part of the first half was okay, we created three or four really good chances.

“At half time we talked about how we should turn this around and then we go out and concede. I haven’t seen the goal, but it looks a bit stupid to me.

“We have to be honest, we don’t have the skill right now to break down a defence like Sundowns.

“We had three or four chances, but not more than that. They defended well.”

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
