Jomo loves beating Pirates

Cape Town - Jomo Cosmos boss Jomo Sono has confessed that he derives immense satisfaction from beating Orlando Pirates.

The struggling Cosmos pulled off their biggest upset of the season after beating Buccaneers 1-0 at Olen Park on Saturday.

A 75th-minute strike from Charlton Mashumba secured Cosmos' third win of the season to put them a point above the relegation zone.

"I love beating Pirates. I don't have any grudges but I just love beating them because they brought me up," Sono told the Sowetan.

"If your father has taught you something, you have to go out and show him that, 'I learnt from you, and I'm better than you'.

"I told my players: 'You're not good enough. You're lying to the public if you think you're good enough. You have to go out there and fight because you're not yet ready to compete with anyone in the PSL'.

"But it was a motivational strategy on my side. And they went out to prove to me they're Premier League players. But I still believe they're not there yet.

"Pirates are a very good team. So we made sure whoever had the ball, they didn't enjoy it. This win will help the players a lot. I believe we are not relegation candidates."
