Johnson pleased with young guns

Cape Town - Platinum Stars coach Cavin Johnson liked what he saw from his young players against Orlando Pirates in the preseason friendly Maize Cup on Saturday.

Although Dikwena lost 3-1 on penalties, Johnson got a chance to give Gift Links and Katlego Khunou a run.

Dikwena strengthened their team with little known players including Tshirelatso Lesabane, Sipho Senne, Sphamandla Mlilo, Sphiwe Mnguni, Nhlakanipho Duma, Kamohelo Mathe, Thuto Mphahlele, Thobani Kunene and Benson Shilongo.

"As a team I think we played very well in the game. You know we gave the youngsters the chance for about 20 minutes and they did very well," Johnson told KickOff.

"It's good to see them play in games like these so that they gain the experience of playing in the top league."

Platinum Stars will open their Premiership season against SuperSport United on August 23.
