Jantjie's upbeat over Stars survival hopes

Cape Town - Free State Stars attacking midfielder Sinethemba Jantjie is optimistic his team can avoid relegation this season.

Jantjie was on the score-sheet last week when Ea Lla Koto shocked league leaders Bidvest Wits with a 3-1 win at Goble Park.

That result moved Stars up to 13th place with 26 points, two points above the relegation zone.

With two games left to play - against fellow relegation battlers Bloemfontein Celtic (Wednesday, May 17) and Chippa United (Saturday, May 27), Jantjie is feeling good about his team's chances of avoiding the axe.

"It was an important goal in my career," Jantjie was quoted saying by the Daily Sun.

"I'm happy I scored against a big team and log leaders. Our chances to survive relegation are in our hands.

"Even though we lost games, we didn't play badly. We made a few mistakes that cost us. But the coach has confidence in our ability to win our remaining matches," he added.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
