Jali blames Lekgwathi for his poor PSL discipline

Cape Town - Andile Jali blamed his poor disciplinary record at Orlando Pirates on the recently-retired Lucky Lekgwathi, who he claims used to shout at him during matches.

The 26-year-old, who now plays for KV Oostende in the Belgium Pro League, pointed out that he would become angry because Lekgwathi would often shout at him constantly throughout games.

The combative central-midfielder picked up his fair share of cautions - he tallied close to 20 yellow cards during his five-year spell with Pirates.

Jali and Lekgwathi played together with the Sea Robbers from 2009 until 2014 - a period in which the club secured a famous back-to-back trebles and also reached the final of the CAF Champions League in 2013, before losing to Al Ahly.

The midfielder, who was recently linked with a move to Leeds United in the English Championship, told the club's official website, "I would get so angry because while I was trying to focus, there comes Bra Slugger (Lekgwathi) shouting at me for the entire match."

He added, "So I would take out my frustration on the opposition and when I get booked we would fight because I blamed him for making me angry and he blamed me for getting booked."

Nonetheless, Jali was also quick to note that Lekgwathi's competitive spirit never left the field of play, saying, "The one thing I respect about him was that at the end of the match, he left it all on the field. The fights never even once went beyond the final whistle, at the end of the match he was like a friend and a big brother again."

The Bucs legend hung up his boots recently after a glorious 12-year career with the Soweto giants.
