Igesund back in the PSL with shock Highlands Park job

Cape Town - Highlands Park have confirmed that Gordon Igesund has been appointed as head coach with immediate effect.

The appointment comes as a surprise as there was no indication that Allan Freese's job was on the line.

"Be informed that Highlands Park have appointed Gordon Igesund as their Head Coach with immediate effect. Reasons and all other related issues will be released later," read a short statement released by the club.

Highlands Park have picked up four points from their five Absa Premiership games this season and are looking to cement their PSL status for next season despite the current campaign still in its early stages.

Igesund was sacked from his post at SuperSport United in January this year after a dismal start to the 2015/16 campaign and has been jobless ever since.

The 60-year-old was recently reported to have been linked with the Zambia head coach job, but instead it seems that the four-time PSL champion coach has rekindled his love with South Africa's top flight football league.

Igesund will be in the Highlands technical area when the PSL new-boys take on in-form Chippa United in a Telkom Knockout Round of 16 clash on Friday, October 21.

Kick-off is at 20:00.
