Hunt foresees tighter PSL title race

Cape Town - Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt believes challengers to the Premiership title have reloaded for the new season which will make life difficult for champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

The dominant Brazilians cruised to the Premiership title with a 14-point winning margin after accumulating a record 71 points.

Hunt is convinced that the championship race will be tighter in the upcoming season, with the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates having bolstered their squads.

"I think the points total will never be the same again from Sundowns," Hunt told KickOff.

"I think everybody will be stronger and will take points from each other. Where last year, Chiefs and Pirates were poor.

"They never took points from Sundowns like they normally do. So I think the points total will be lower this year. I don't think they will get as many like they got last year.

"Look at SuperSport signings, they spent a fortune. Chiefs will be better and so will be Pirates. I think we are also better, but we must turn it into points."

The university club will face Kaizer Chiefs in their season opener at the Bidvest Stadium on August 23.
