Cape Town - Legendary
goalkeeping coach Alejandro Heredia says Jackson Mabokgwane has the
qualities to become a regular in goal for Orlando Pirates.
Mabokgwane has to compete with Siyabonga Mpontshane, Brighton Mhlongo and Felipe Ovono for a spot in the starting XI at Pirates.
The former Black Aces, Bidvest Wits and Platinum Stars shot-stopper has started four league and one cup game for Bucs this season.
Heredia though says that he is confident that Mabokgwane would be a good option to take the number one position on a full-time basis.
"I think Jackson is a tremendous goalkeeper. If he settles down, then he will get more and more game-time. When he gets more game-time, he will perform to his best," Heredia told Goal.
"Although, he did make a few mistakes here and there, but it was just as a result of a lack of confidence. But if he plays more games, he will recover from that set-back," the former Sundowns and Pirates goalkeeping coach continued.
"The level of competition at Pirates is very good. He is competing with very good goalkeepers. They are not afraid of competing with one another because they want to do well.
"Brighton is doing well. Mpontshane is an exceptional goalkeeper. If one of the three can settle down properly, then they will have a very good season at the club."
Pirates resume the second half of their PSL campaign on February 8 when they face Platinum Stars at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.
kick off is at 19:30.
