Cape Town - Captain Travis Graham says it would mean a lot to the Ajax Cape Town supporters to earn their first win of the season against Maritzburg United at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.
The Urban Warriors remain bottom of the Premiership with just three draws from their opening eight league matches, but need no extra motivation to face the Team of Choice.
The rivalry between the two sides stems from 2011 when Maritzburg held Ajax to a 2-2 draw on the final day of the season to deny them the Premiership title and hand it to Orlando Pirates instead.
And Graham, who knows the club needs to start winning matches it they are to avoid a relegation battle later in the season, is hopeful of all three points this weekend.
"Obviously we want to win all our remaining games this year, starting with the clash against Maritzburg United at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday," Graham said on his club's website.
"Maritzburg are a very difficult team to play against and obviously they have caused quite a few upsets against us over the years."
He added: "They obviously spoiled our party in May 2011, so there has ever since been a bit of a rivalry between us.
"We just have to make sure that we remain focused on ourselves, on our strengths and hopefully we will finally get the win we crave."
While a number of players from that 2011 side have moved on, Graham says a win would mean a lot for the club's fans.
"I wouldn't say any of the players still suffer from missing out on the league title five years ago, with most of the guys having left the club since – but coming from the supporters side I am sure there will always be an emotional connection when playing Maritzburg, especially when playing at home."
