Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs defender Lorenzo Gordinho is adamant the club has been performing well of late and has nor deserved the recent run of poor results.
Chiefs ended a run of four straight defeats with a 0-0 draw away from home against ASEC Mimosas in the CAF Champions League over the weekend, but it was not enough to prevent them from being knocked out of the competition after losing the first leg at home.
The defender 21-year-old admits it has been difficult to keep a positive attitude in the face of their poor form this season, which has seen them unable to defend their league title, lose in the finals of both the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout, and get knocked out in the first round of both the Nedbank Cup and CAF Champions League.
"I have just kept on working hard," Gordinho told Vodacom Soccer. "I can't let it get to me mentally like the other players have also done in blocking it.
"We know what we are doing and we know what we want to do. We're just not winning games. We are playing good football. There will be a turning point where we will start winning and don't stop. Until we reach that point, it will be tough. We are really working hard to try and be consistent."
One major positive for Gordinho is his breakthrough into the first team and the partnership he is forming in the center of defence with Eric Mathoho, but he is believes it doesn't mean much if Amakhosi aren't winning matches.
"I have come a long away," he told this site. "It all happened quickly that I can't describe the change. I just have to continue with what I did before in order to get here and that will take me to the next stage of my career," he explained.
"But it's bitter-sweet because if I perform well and the team doesn't win than I think it's a bad performance because the overall goal is for the team to win.
"I am part of the whole process. I can't say that I am doing well so I don't care what happens. I love to win. I hate losing. So when the team loses, no matter how well I have played, it doesn't sit well with me."
