Gordinho in talks to extend Chiefs contract

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs defender Lorenzo Gordinho is reportedly in talks with the club about extending his contract at Naturena.

The 22-year-old has established himself as a first-team regular under coach Steve Komphela, and has chipped in with some valuable goals as well. He is currently Chiefs' leading scorer with three league strikes to his name.

His solid form has seen the Glamour Boys record six clean sheets in a row in the Premiership, and he is seemingly becoming one of South Africa's premier centre-backs.

As such, Amakhosi management are keen to offer the player an extended deal as his current contract expires in July next year. If he does not agree terms, he could sign a pre-contract with any other club in January.

However, Gordinho's agent Mike Makaab has revealed that talks have been opened with Chiefs regarding a new deal.

"Lorenzo's current contract with Chiefs does expire at the end of this season, and we have just started talks regarding a potential new deal," he told Soccer Laduma.

Gordinho has struck up an excellent understanding with centre-back partner, Eric Mathoho in the heart of the Amakhosi defence having conceded just three goals in eight games so far this season.
