Gordinho following in Rusike's footsteps

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs centre-back Lorenzo Gordinho has credited striker Matthew Rusike for inspiring him to score goals.

Rusike, who now plays for Helsingborgs in Sweden where he has scored seven goals since leaving Naturena in 2015, took to social media to praise Gordinho following his strike in the recent 2-0 win against Maritzburg United.

The Zimbabwe international, who was not a regular at Chiefs but scored a brace in a 4-1 victory against Polokwane City which handed the club the league title in 2014/15, said: "Well done boy! Lead the way. Future captain (material)."

Gordinho then credited Rusike for a scoring record that has seen the defender hit five goals in 20 appearances for Steve Komphela's side. He said: "(Just) following your scoring ways!"

The 22-year-old has become a regular member of Chiefs' starting line-up under Komphela, and his goal-return especially from set-pieces can seemingly only strengthen his place in the side.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
