Cape Town - A misfiring Maritzburg United held off some late pressure at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium to claim a 0-0 draw against Polokwane City on Wednesday.
Rise and Shine made the early play, but they were unable to threaten Maritzburg keeper Richard Ofori with a couple of tame efforts.
Maritzburg came into their own midway through the half, and there was work to do for home keeper George Chigova, who did well to keep his goal intact in the wake of shots from Deolin Mekoa and Mxolisi Kunene.
The KZN side continued to press and Evans Rusike was inches away from converting Kunene's inviting cross six minutes before the interval on a warm evening in the Limpopo Province.
It was a different story after the interval as Polokwane City took the game to United, but once more they struggled to create openings, while Ofori remained solid when called into action.
The game was to open up as both teams gave their all to break the deadlock and snatch a winner. The Limpopo side ended strongly though and came close several times to sneaking victory as the visitors held on for the point.
