Furman: We maintained our focus

Pretoria - SuperSport United captain Dean Furman believes his team-mates managed to get past the struggling Ajax Cape Town due to their "high level of concentration" throughout the game, despite the stormy weather at the weekend.

Matsatsantsa piled more misery on the Urban Warriors following their 1-0 triumph in the Telkom Knockout Round of 16 clash played at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday courtesy of a Thuso Phala strike in extra-time.

Furman insisted that it meant a lot for Matsatsantsa to progress to the quarter-finals as they aim to go all the way and attempt to clinch the R4m competition.

“We maintained our focus and I think that we were on top of our game,” said Furman.

“Even at extra-time, we showed a great level of concentration we had and we even discussed that during little break due to bad weather conditions.

“After that (the break) we almost grabbed a second goal which could have put us in a more comfortable position.

“But we are happy to go through to the next round of the competition, it’s a big competition for us and we are willing to battle for it. And hopefully we’ll go all the way to win it.”

The Telkom Knockout draw will take place on Thursday after the Mamelodi Sundowns and Polokwane City Round of 16 match.
