Free State Stars confirm Eymael to replace Troughton

Cape Town - Free State Stars have confirmed the appointment of Luc Eymael as their new head coach, replacing the outgoing Sammy Troughton.

A club statement read:

Free State Stars Football Club confirms the appointment of Mr. Luc Eymael as the new Head Coach of the team.

The Coach and club have entered into a two-year contract and we trust and believe that with his experience, passion and work ethic he is the right person to take Free State Stars back to winning ways.

It is however with regret that we had to terminate our contract with Coach Sammy Troughton as the mutual feeling was that the two could not work together because of their different philosophies of football, as the saying goes: "There can only be one bull in a kraal' and the two coaches' belief that they are both head coaches and as a result it would have been difficult for Coach Sammy to work under Coach Luc as an assistant.

We want to take this opportunity to thank Sammy for the effort and the role that he played in helping FSS prepare for the 2017l18 season and most importantly we would like to take this opportunity to wish him the best of luck for his future endeavours.

Troughton led Free State Stars on Wednesday night to an impressive 2-2 draw against reigning PSL champions Bidvest Wits despite his side being reduced to 10 men.

Eymael's first game in charge will see Stars welcome Mamelodi Sundowns to Goble Park on September 13 with his aim for the season to finish in the top half of the table.

Kick-off is at 19:30.
