Free State edge out Platinum Stars

Cape Town - Moeketsi Sekola scored late as Free State Stars beat Platinum Stars 2-1 in an Absa Premiership encounter at the Moruleng Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Ea Lla Koto began the game brilliantly with Bokang Thlone curling the ball into the Dikwena box in the fourth minute and goalkeeper Mbongeni Mzimela made a save with his feet.

Dikwena dribbling wizard Masibusane Zongo unleashed a shot from range in the 12th minute which sailed over the goal-posts.

In the 21st minute Ea Lla Koto midfielder Lucky Mohomi took a chance to get an effort at goal and former AmaZulu keeper Mzimela denied him with a diving save.

Mohomi again tested Mzimela in the 32nd minute with a shot from just outside the Dikwena box.

However, it was Dikwena who found the opening goal through Ndumiso Mabena with two minutes left before the half-time break.

Ea Lla Koto responded with a goal six minutes after the restart and it was former Orlando Pirates forward Paulus Masehe who made it 1-1.

The visitors continued to dominate the game and they were rewarded for their efforts in the 79th minute after being awarded a penalty.

Reported Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns target Moeketsi Sekola then fired Ea Lla Koto into the lead from the spot-kick.

Dikwena launched late attacks in search of the equalising goal, but it never came and the match ended 2-1 in favour of Ea Lla Koto.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
