Cape Town - Former Mamelodi Sundowns captain Method Mwanjali has been arrested after allegedly stabbing an individual in a nightclub.
According to The Herald, Mwanjali hospitalised the victim after getting into an altercation over a women.
Mwanjali and his current CAPS United team-mate got into the brawl in the early hours on Sunday morning, April 17.
Both players have been detained at the Milton Park Police station and are set to appear in court on Tuesday, April 19.
United confirmed that they are currently busy sorting out legal representation for both players ahead of their court appearance.
“As much as we stand by our players, we also regret the whole incident and feel sorry for all those that got hurt and wish them a speedy recovery,” said United club spokesman, Bunjira.
“We don’t condone violence at the club. The matter will be dealt with at the club internally once the law has taken its full course.”
It has been revealed that the victim has undergone a successful surgery.
Mwanjali spent five years in South Africa and in that time also donned the colours of Mpumalanga Black Aces.
The 32-year-old was handed United’s captaincy in January after returning to Zimbabwe last year.
