Doctor should 'branch out', says Barker

Cape Town - Legendary South African coach Clive Barker has advised Doctor Khumalo to leave Kaizer Chiefs in order to get coaching experience.

Khumalo was demoted to the lower technical structures at Naturena after being replaced as assistant coach by John Paintsil.

Chiefs coach Steve Komphela has opted for a new right-hand man after his disappointing first season with Amakhosi.

"I think it would be a good thing for Doctor to branch out and test his skills in a very, very tough environment," Barker told KickOff.

"I just hope that [if he moves to another club] Doctor gets the team and quality players to work with. That said, my message to him is 'Doc, have a go and you've got all the skills in the world and you were a fabulous player'.

"We hope Steve will be successful and nobody wants to leave the competitive environment. I have said to everybody that Khumalo is the best player I worked with and I'm quite sure he has got something to offer.

"Unfortunately it didn't work out like that and Steve will be up against it. And if he doesn't produce the goods early in the season I think he will have a lot of pressure."
